Thanks, Fr. Marie-Paul. I know there isn't a silver bullet, and I do pray the Rosary and Chaplet. I just want things to go faster. (God's time is perfect, however.)

Hi Mary,

I am very glad to hear of your return to the faith.

I am not aware of one book which might be considered a "silver bullet," but there is a website dealing with creation from a scientific and Catholic perspective.

The Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation
Defending Genesis from a Traditional Catholic Perspective
http://www.kolbecenter.org/

Personally I also find the intelligent design information compelling, which argues against the evolution by chance model.

But the best method is a spiritual one - pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet for your husband. "For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the believing wife; and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the believing husband" (1 Corinthians 7:14)

Father, Can you recommend any particular book that would help me engage my atheist/physicist husband in a discussion on religion?

When we married more than 20 years ago, I was liberal and Catholic and he was conservative and agnostic. I've come back to the faith in time, and am now a daily Mass-goer (Latin Mass on Sundays) while he has grown far more liberal (big Obama supporter) and is a confirmed atheist. I know many good authors (Scott Hahn) who speak to me but would turn my husband off, because they start from a religious world view.

Thanks.

Devin, the sin of despair is part of giving up of the fight for life. That resists the Grace that God gives to deal with the very difficult situations. The virtue of hope gives us the strength to trust in Jesus, His promises, His Grace and the way to work through the problems. God doesn't withhold the Grace for difficult situations, but many times people refuse His help.

Thank you for this example.

I was wondering what your thoughts are concerning people who commit suicide. If Jesus does not give your more crosses than you can handle, why would someone be so overwhelmed they would end their life?

Thank you.
